KM 60-35 CDE elite
Experience count
Krauss-Maffei has been producing injection molding machines for decades. We have used this experience to develop molding machines for optical disc production. These machines were developed to exactly fit the requirements for CD, CD-R, DVD, and DVD-R production. Our e-star series systems are built to run as one entity from the beginning of injection to the end of the downstream process. This relationship allows us to build our systems to work together, to achieve highest quality at low cycle times with the precision for which we are known by our customers and partners.

Our KM 60-35 CDE e-star
elite is an electrical driven injection molding machine modified for the rigororous demands of optical disc production. With a clamping force of 500 kN (50t) our elite not only able to produce CD and DVD but is also right for CD-R and DVD-R production. This means elite can be used to make the full range of optical media products.

Injection unit
Dependability, stability and high availability are just some of our benefits of our electric injection unit. With our high-torque servo motors and the patented direct-drive system for injection and plasticyzing we are able to offer our partners a system that guarantees high productivity.
The result is exactly reproducible control of all injection and plasticizing parameters without losses due to gears or drive slip. Both synchronous motors, the injection and plasticizing motors, work independently of each other and reach maximum torque even when just starting up.

Clamp unit ¡V innovative two platen technnology
The compact two-platen clamp unit is equipped with electromotive servo drives for the opening and closing strokes, for clamp force build-up and for the ejector. The stroke force is synchronously conveyed through spindle nuts to four spindles. This is coupled with linear precision guides, in which the movable mould fixing platen is guided on the machine bed, to guarantee high platen parallelism.
The new, patented spindle-motor design ensures precise, reproducible mould movements. A hybrid unit controlled by a servo motor generates rapid clamp force build-up while offering the ideal prerequisites for accommodating all known stamping techniques with a linear stamping force characteristic. The fully encapsulated drives for the clamp unit and ejector meet the most stringent demands placed on cleanroom production.

Sensitive mould protection, low repair costs
The elite clamp unit is equipped with both a high precision position control and a stroke force monitor. In the mould protection area, three clamp speeds and three stroke force limiters can be independently set and monitored for three different distances, as has already been implemented in the C series with great success. This ensures that even the finest mould contours receive reliable and sensitive protection.

Mold
With our patented Future-Mold and KM 60-190 CDE combination we have built a system assured of its future. This system guarantees short cycle times and a stable process. It saves you time and its small footprint saves you space.
Mechanically assisted suction cups remove substrate and sprue at a simple and foolproof operation since no servomotor is required. So there is no possibility to crash the system per misoperation.
Because of the compact and logical design it is easy to adapt a conveyance robot for all downstream equipment.

User interface
Our user interface is easy to understand and makes running the machine a cinch. The right graphics make it easy for continuous monitoring of process and product. Parameter settings can be stored and quickly recalled when needed. The controller allows processes such as cycle stops or stamper changes to be carried out without parameter alteration

The MC4 microprocessor control
The MC4 microprocessor control is a standard feature of all Krauss-Maffei series of injection moulding machines that range from 300 kN to 54 000 kN and is now also incorporated in the elite. The MC4 is characterised by its:
¡V rapid signal processing for exact reproducibility of the set process values
¡V clearly structured display on a TFT screen with icons, graphics and parameters in real-time
¡V data storage on hard disk and floppy disk
¡V ready link to the external PC environment
¡V access-protected operator keyboard with a quick navigation feature
¡V Windows technology
¡V hierarchically structured access rights
The MC4 gives you full insight into production using extensive analysis systems: All actual values captured over the last 30 000 cycles of the process are stored on the hard disk and are available for further evaluation, e.g. production assessment using trend graphics.

Displayed, stored, documented ¡V for full quality assurance and reporting
The quality control package, which includes tolerance band monitoring, is a standard feature of the MC4, as is comprehensive documentation of machine events in the form of a log book or an alarm report that can be called up at any time.
Such events are:

¡V changes in the rated values
¡V machine standstills
¡V alarm messages
¡V tolerance band monitoring

Mould-dependent data sets: simultaneous loading and display
Recorded mould-dependent machine data sets can be alphanumerically coded, identified and archived in the MC4. During production, each data set can be loaded into each MC4 control system as a preview and loaded into a window on the MC4 control system.

Extendable for network linking
PC systems can perform remote data transmission via modem or Ethernet link. The MC4 control system uses a TCP/IP protocol to establish access to the Internet and thus to a series of supplementary evaluation systems.
